YouTube has shut down 5 TV channels in Myanmar

The US-based technology company Alphabet's video-sharing site YouTube has removed five television channels run by the Myanmar army from its platform.

The five channels that have been removed include state-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) as well as army-controlled Mayawadi Media, MW Variety and MWD Myanmar.

A spokesman for YouTube confirmed to Reuters that several channels had been shut down and many videos had been removed in accordance with the Community Goodline and applicable laws.

He said the move was in response to the military's ouster of a democratic government in the Southeast Asian nation in February.

Earlier, Facebook authorities also banned the Myanmar Army and all related accounts and pages on their platform.
