Apple surpasses Samsung in smartphone sales


For the first time since 2016, Apple has surpassed Samsung in global smartphone sales. The iPhone maker achieved this milestone in the last quarter of 2020 as the fourth quarter.

According to Gartner's latest report, global smartphone sales fell 5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020. Even then, Apple is at the top of sales with its four iPhone 12 models in that quarter.

For the past few years, Samsung or Huawei have been at the top. But with the new iPhone, Apple topped the market with 20.8 percent share. On the other hand, Huawei is at the bottom of the list of top 5 companies. Xiaomi is third and Apo is fourth.

Note that Samsung is at the top in 2020 as a whole. Last year, their market share was 18.8 percent. Apple was in second place with 14.8 percent share.
